My private Tours

If you like personal attention and freedom and if you don't like the commercial tours with their  stops at souvenirs shops and little or no time for your wishes I offer a solution: private, individual tours from 1 - 4 persons in a comfortable full size 4wd. These private tours go far beyond the normal commercial tours, because I try to fulfill your wishes. Additional it's possible that I hire  a very good, experienced and local guide to make this happen. Of course you can visit the Costa Rican highlights, but sometimes the off the beaten path is more interesting. At my multiple day tours I use good and reliable hotels, upgrades are possible of course. I offer day trips for my guests and for tourists who stay in or around Alajuela, I will pick you up in your hotel in the morning and will return you in the afternoon. Below some examples:

One-day tours:

The Poás Volcano. Driving to the Poás Volcano  is a beautiful ride  between coffee plantations, beautiful views over the central valley and ending up in the cloudforest. The Poás volcano   has one of the world's largest craters.

The Poás Volcano    and Sarchi. Sarchi is the production center of the famous painted ox carts and has many tourists shops. Last but not least Sarchi has a nice botanical garden.

The Irazu Volcano and/or the Orosi Valley. The Irazu is the world's highest drive-to volcano, more than 3400 meters.

San José, the capital of Costa Rica. You can visit the Pre-Colombian Gold Museum, the National Theatre (one of the oldest buildings in San José), The Pueblo Antigo Museum or a visit to the central market of San José.

Multiple day tours:

There are various possibilities of tours to La Fortuna, it depends on what you like to see or to do. La Fortuna offers a program for every tourist out of the world, it was famous for The Arenal volcano with its amazing views of the lavaflow by night. There are various possibilities to hike through the rainforest even at night. Most of the time it is possible to see howler- and  spidermonkees, of course the toucans and a lot more. The hanging bridges are another possibility and of course a visit to one of the available hotsprings. We can be in La Fortuna between 2 and 6 days with visits to the Río Celeste and the Caño Negro area.

In my program are 2 and 3 days tours with a visit to the Irazu volcano, the Orosi valley and San Gerardo de Dota (Cerro de la Muerte, cold at night), in the last village you can see the famous Quetzal. This is the best place in Costa Rica to see this wonderfull bird, where we will stay 1 or 2 nights.
For a photo impression of what you can expect at my tours you can visit my photo galleries.

My special tour to La Fortuna, the Río Celeste and the Caño Negro:

Early 2007 I developed a special 4 days tour to one of the most beautiful areas of Costa Rica: from the northern mountains (Poás) of the Central Valley to the Nicaraguan border. Recently (September 19, 2007) is decided by UNESCO in Paris to make from this area a huge Biosphere Reserve (916.000 hectares), it's named Peace & Water (Paz y Agua in Spanish). At the picture below you can see how huge this area is: it includes Arenal NP, The Monteverde protected area, Tenorio NP, The Miravalles protected area, The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge and it continues at the Nicaraguan side.
With this tour we will visit the main highlights of this area: Poás NP, a wildlife rescue center, the Arenal area, Tenorio NP and an early morning boattrip out of Los Chiles: the Caño Negro tour. Of course I can change details of this tour to fulfill special wishes. If you have only one week vacation here, try this tour with 3 days at the beach (send me your preferences if you have some beach in your mind) and you will enjoy an out of the common trip to Costa Rica with a lot of highlights and wildlife.
